The January 2009 OPEN training
is a residential workshop specifically designed to develop our practice of Contact Improvisation and other related improvised dance work. The workshop will include physical training, improvisation and composition scores, jamming, watching, discussion, feedback, contemplative practice, and performance studies.
The workshop will meet Monday–Friday, 10 am to 5:30 pm in studios at Earthdance, Plainfield, MA, (a beautiful dance retreat center located 35 minutes west of Northampton, MA, in the Berkshire Mountains with two dance barns and a wood-fired sauna), in town, and at an Aikido dojo. There will be some evening and weekend activities.
In solo work, duets, and groups; in and out of contact; in silence and with live music, we will move toward greater clarity and inspiration in our dancing and watching. Please come prepared physically and psychologically for intensive practice (and a bit of fun!).
Who is eligible? The January 2008 OPEN workshop welcomes dancers with previous experience in Contact Improvisation (intermediate level required).
To Register: Fill out the online application form (see below) outlining your background and skill level in Contact Improvisation, dance, and improvisation, and your reasons for wanting to attend. Submit this form with your $160 deposit online or via post. All applications must be approved by Nancy. COSTS & INFORMATION
WORKSHOP TUITION
$720–800 (sliding scale) if application form & $160 deposit is received by Nov. 14, 2008.
$750–830 (sliding scale) if deposit & application is received after 11/14/08.
HOUSING/FOOD
$635 (plus 3–5 hours/week of housework) for 3 weeks shared room & board at Earthdance.
If you are not residing at Earthdance, there is a $275 non-resident fee for Mon., Tues., Fri. meals and Mon. sleepovers at Earthdance. We encourage you to live at Earthdance.
Register for room/board through us, not Earthdance. Payment for room/board will be paid to Earthdance on arrival. Some Workstudy available.

Arrive: Sun, Jan. 4, after 2pm
Depart: Fri, Jan. 23, late afternoon
(Check with Earthdance if you wish to arrive early or depart later.)

Rides To Earthdance: from Bradley Airport and Northampton may be available from Earthdance staff for a fee.

During workshop: Travel to and from the in-town sites will be arranged through carpooling using participants’ cars (sharing expenses).
Please bring your car, if possible!

Space is limited. Applications must be approved before final confirmation will be sent. A packet with more detailed info will be sent on acceptance. (Deposit will be refunded if not accepted.)
