Contact Improvisation Teachers’ Exchange (CITE)
Facilitated by Nancy Stark Smith and Martin Keogh
Earthdance, Plainfield, MA
June 27-July 3, 2006

Every contact improvisation teacher brings their distinct approach to the form. During this four-day exchange we will bring our questions and challenges, share our findings, and look to broaden our inquiry and repertoire. Nestled in the quiet beauty of Earthdance this will be a focused time with a small group of teachers to replenish and investigate.

This is not a teacher training, but rather a facilitated inquiry and exchange for active contact teachers to work and collaborate with peers.

Possible themes and activities:
• Examining what is the core proposition of contact improvisation
• Looking at how we source and develop material that centers on this core proposition
• Identifying different teaching and transmission styles
• Sharing our “Tried and True” scores and exercises
• Discussing some of the philosophical and practical issues involved in our teaching
• And plenty of time to dance together
